Our Organisation

Our Mission

Our mission is to help keep older and vulnerable Londoners happy, healthy and independent at home though the provision of meals on wheels and more.

Our History

London Independent Living Service (LILS) is a new initiative, launched in 2017 by Hertfordshire Independent Living Service (HILS), which is the largest not-for-profit provider of meals on wheels in the UK. HILS has been evaluating the impact of meal services since its inception in 2007, and has proven the preventative value of this home-based support.

London has seen the greatest decline in meal services, and LILS has been created to meet that challenge. Currently operating within the boroughs of Camden and Haringey, LILS is helping to tackle food poverty and malnutrition, and aims to reach thousands of older, frail, disabled, and vulnerable people so that no one goes hungry in their home.

Our Approach and Ethos

LILS is a not-for-profit, charitable, social enterprise. This means that we trade to do good and support people and we reinvest any surplus into helping our clients. The main aim of our service is to help people to stay happy, healthy and independent at home.

We believe in helping people back into work: a number of our staff have found it difficult to work for a wide range of reasons and we have helped them to thrive in the workplace with training and support.
